Okefenokee Swamp & Georgia Coast Trip

Join Bruce Beerbower, CSC’s Lead Naturalist on a trip to the Okefenokee swamp in Georgia!
Recommended for Adults and Youth (11 and older with guardian) Minimum: 6 participants*. Limited to 11 participants.
COST: Members $1,200.00, Non-Members $1450.00
(Remember a Family or Grandparent Membership is still only $75.00 = savings of $175.00)
Includes all transportation & entrance fees, Lodging: 1 night – motel, 3 nights – Park Cabins, most meals & surprises! (Everyone gets to help cook and clean-up.)
1/2 fee deposit Due April 12, balance due by May 12

Depart Hickory 7:30 am
Bag lunch enroute to Waycross, Georgia.  Bring your own lunch and drink

TUESDAY, June 13

Early breakfast and on the road by 8:30 am enroute to the Okefenokee Swamp Park in Waycross, GA. This privately owned facility offers a good orientation to the swamp.  See captive native animals, including snakes, bear, deer, and much more in natural habitat settings.  There will be live snakes and reptile programs, and a short boat tour.  Picnic lunch.  Afternoon visit and boat tour of Suwannee Canal (High Grass Prairie Habitat) near Folkston, GA enroute to Stephen C. Foster State Park, Fargo, GA. Late supper / lodging in cabins.

Breakfast in cabin, and then explore the Cypress-Gum Swamp in motor boats. Historical walking tour of Billy’s Island, site of early logging town and Indian mound.  Narrow winding boat trails to the heart of the Okefenokee!  Perfect time for fishing! (Bring your own gear, Adult 3 day licenses are available in Waycross.)  Lunch in boats or at the canoe shelter.  Supper will be in the cabins.



Breakfast in the cabins. An all day canoe trip will provide a true sense of wilderness and solitude.  (Optional short canoe trip and pontoon boat tour).

FRIDAY , June 16

Early breakfast in cabins.
Depart ap. 8:00am for Jekyll Island Sea Turtle Hospital.
Possibly another surprise on the way home to Hickory
Dinner enroute at fast food restaurant (on your own)
Arrive in Hickory, NC approximately at 10:00 pm;
