CREATING ACCESS TO SCIENCE – Catawba Science Center (CSC) believes that engagement of children at an early age in fun, educational, hands–on science experiences can lead to a greater understanding of science and future careers in science.

What would my family receive? Catawba Science Center’s Portal to Science Passport allows families facing financial challenges to participate in Catawba Science Center’s exhibitions on any day CSC is open for only $1 per person. Normal admission is $6 per child and $8 per adult.

Who is eligible? Families with dependent children, age 18 and under, living in Alexander, Burke, Caldwell, or Catawba counties and receiving federal assistance through their department of Social Services or Public Health. Typically, qualified individuals are enrolled in Medicaid, WorkFirst, or WIC programs.

What is the Portal to Science Passport?

  • This special wallet card and key fob provide reduced general admission to all card holders.
  • Participating families must present their Portal to Science Passport card or key fob in order to receive the special admission rate of $1.00/person per visit. Additional exhibition fees may apply.
  • The Portal to Science Passport can be used on any day that CSC is open to the public. Closed Mondays.
  • The Passport is good for the entire family and can be used repeatedly. May not be used by groups.
  • The Passport expires on August 31, 2017.

 

Where is Catawba Science Center located? Catawba Science Center’s (CSC) facility is located at 243 3rd Ave. NE. in Hickory, NC.

How do I get a Portal to Science Passport card? Families interested in participating must go to their local Social Services or Public Health department in order to apply for and receive a Portal to Science Passport. These are the only locations that are authorized to distribute Portal to Science Passport cards.
