Learn something new…. Share your time and talents with others…Give back to the community…. Make new friends….

The reasons for volunteering are many. Catawba Science Center relies on volunteers to help promote its mission of science education.



Adult Volunteer opportunities (ages 18 and above)


Science Interpreters and Demonstrators:

Interact with visitors, explain exhibits, present brief science demonstrations, and answer questions about CSC. Volunteers must be able to commit to a regular schedule, i.e. every other Sunday, every Friday morning. Training is provided.


Science Shop Assistants:

Help gift shop staff with visitor check-in, sales and inventory. Volunteers need to commit to a regular schedule such as every other Friday afternoon, or the first Thursday of every month, etc. Training to operate CSC’s point-of-sale system is provided, computer skills are a plus.


Exhibit Volunteers:

Help set up and take down traveling exhibits, build and repair exhibits, and maintain exhibit workshop. Must have some experience with simple tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches and power drills, and must be able to bend, and lift objects.


Office Assistants:
Assist with simple office tasks such as stuffing envelopes, sorting, labeling and counting newsletters, and helping with special projects as they arise. Familiarity with basic office tasks is helpful.


Animal Care/Aquarium Assistants:

Assist in feeding and habitat maintenance of live animals. Tasks such as food preparation, habitat cleaning, water quality testing, and record-keeping are included. Prior animal care experience and a regular availability schedule are required.


The Einstein Brigade - Volunteer Program for Seniors:

This special program is designed specifically for seniors and retirees over 55. Volunteers can work in any or all of the above areas, and/or serve as Science Center outreach volunteers, taking and presenting programs and demonstrations to seniors in the community.

Teen Volunteer Opportunities (Ages 13 to 17)

Students ages 13 to 17 can volunteer at CSC for personal/educational enrichment, or to fulfill school or community service project hours. Interested applicants should contact CSC well in advance of their project deadline.
