April is North Carolina Science Festival Month!

The North Carolina Science Festival is the first statewide science festival in the United States. The annual month-long celebration of science brings together hundreds of community events across North Carolina each year in April.  The Festival presents a unique opportunity for North Carolinians of all ages to celebrate and engage with science. NCScifest is presented by the RTI International and produced by Morehead Planetarium and Science Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Science Matters Matter Mania

April 11th, 2026

Investigate the matter that makes up our world - and universe! Explore solids, liquids, and gases through hands-on stations throughout the science center - including non-Newtonian fluids. Watch planetarium shows that explain the stuff of our world!*

Take part in a conversation with Mx. Elise O. Weaver MS, Appalachian State University's Director of Undergraduate Astronomy Labs, about dark matter (and why research into this unknown matters to us all)!#

Special activities are included with science center admission.

2:30 PM – Molecularium: Riding Snowflakes
3:30 PM – The Incredible Sun
#1 PM - Dark Matter with Mx. Elise O. Weaver MS
This talk, for adults and astronomy enthusiasts, will be held in the Millholland Planetarium. Space limited to 65 seats, available on a first-come basis.
