First held in February 1986, the Guild is a group of dedicated volunteers who help organize, staff, and host the Annual Dinner & Auction fundraiser each spring. While this began as a simple spaghetti dinner, it has now grown into a gala with a dinner, live auction, games, and SO much MORE! The guild is crucial in supporting the mission of the Catawaba Science Center by aiding in fundraising efforts through community engagement and volunteerism. The Guild creates a theme with matching décor, and obtains the donations for the live and online auctions, all of which are original to that year.
Through the Guild’s generous support, CSC’s largest annual fundraiser continues to provide necessary funding for our educational programming and exhibits. Meetings are held from September through April each year.

We meet on the second Tuesday of the month from 10 – 11 am, September through March, to plan and prep for the event in late March. (Our event will be on March 21, 2026)
The day before and the day of the event are all hands on deck! In addition to monthly meetings and the event itself, you may spend additional hours meeting with your committee or working to procure auction items.
Ideally, you would be there for everything, but we understand missing some things if you have prior engagements! Please don't be discouraged from joining even if you can't attend everything — we could use your energy in lots of different areas, not just at the meetings or the big fundraiser!
Additional note: The meeting date and time are currently a grandfathered-in decision. If we get together as a group and decide a different time suits us better as a whole, we can adjust.
Some of the main responsibilities of the Guild include, but are not limited to:
We have in the past! If you are interested in joining but require childcare to attend monthly meetings, please let Emily know ASAP, as we need both sufficient interest and advance notice to provide this service. Contact Emily at cscdev@catawbascience.org to let her know if you might require care.
Absolutely! If you are a go-getter in the community, interested in development or fundraising, or just new in town wanting to get connected, we'd love to have you!

Took the kiddos and they loved it. Employees were nice and helpful. If your looking for something to do with the kids give this place a shot.
We love the Science Center! I take my 2 and 4 year old boys weekly to play and enjoy the exhibits. The staff are wonderful and the classes offered are excellent! We are so blessed to have such an amazing resource in our area.
What a wonderful place to visit! Great environment to learn and the staff is very helpful! Hickory is lucky to have great family education and entertainment.
This place was great. We have kids from 8 to 1 and they all had a great time. What I really liked is most of the exhibits are hands on and that really kept them occupied.
Fabulous and I don’t often give praise. We took our grandson and were there for hours. He loved it and so did we.
