FlutterBy Butterfly Habitat

Visit the well-known FlutterBy Butterfly Habitat on Mother's Day weekend 2025 to learn about the butterfly life cycle at the butterfly nursery. Discover North Carolina Native Butterflies such as Monarchs, Swallowtails, and Fritillaries, and see semitropical species such as Zebra Long Wing, Julia, and Queen Butterflies. Find out what plants attract them as you see a wide array of flowers, shrubs, and vines in many colors and shapes. This exhibit so a local favorite and only comes every 3 years. Don't miss out on your chance to visit!

Turtle Travels

Turtles and tortoises face threats from habitat challenges and the international pet trade. You can help these reptiles survive and migrate safely in the new exhibit Turtle Travels coming Spring 2025! Play Turtle Migration in a giant board game. Track a hidden turtle using telemetry. See how shell shapes suit different lifestyles and habitats. Design a turtle-friendly housing development. Find out what a loggerhead sea turtle sees as it swims!

Solar Tree

Our new Solar Tree charging station sculpture is making headway! Please excuse our mess as we make final preparations for this installation. Soon this will be a place where families and school groups can rest, eat lunch, and charge their devices with the power generated from the solar panels on our Solar Tree Sculpture! PLEASE DO NOT CLIMB ON THE SOLAR TREE!
