Who are we Looking For?

Are you a hard-working motivated individual looking to get more involved with your community? Are you interested in science and interacting with the public? Come volunteer with us at the Science Center!

Volunteers are so important in helping with our day-to-day operations and we are always looking for more! There are so many ways to contribute...

What to Expect/What to Know:

  • Training will be provided for all opportunities necessary
  • Volunteer opportunities will require volunteers to commit to a regular schedule, such as every other Friday afternoon, the first Thursday of the month, every Saturday morning, etc.
  • Must be at least 14 years of age, unless otherwise posted.
  • To be eligible to assist in Animal Care, Exhibits, and Development departments, you must be at least 18 years of age.

Program Volunteers

Assist with educational programs delivering hands-on science. Possibilities such as outreach events, planetarium shows, school functions, etc. Assist during special events throughout the year, school programs, summer camps, and more! Summer camp volunteers can be 13 years of age.

Animal Care/Aquarium Assistants

Assist with day-to-day habitat maintenance. Tasks can include food preparation, habitat cleaning, water quality testing, record-keeping, opening and closing exhibits, visitor interaction/guide, etc. While not guaranteed, volunteers may have the opportunity for hands-on experience with the animals. Prior animal care experience or relevant education and a regular weekly schedule are required. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Exhibit Volunteers

Assist in the creation of brand new exhibits, and building, repairing/maintaining current exhibits. Must have experience with simple power tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, and power drills. Must be physically able to bend and lift heavier objects. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Science Interpreters & Demonstrators

Interact with visitors, explain exhibits, present brief science demonstrations, and answer questions about CSC. Volunteers must be comfortable interacting with the public. Prior customer service skills are a plus.

Membership/Office Admin Volunteers

Assist during membership events throughout the year, special events, and more! Assist both membership and development teams in selling, inputting, and organizing new/existing membership data, helping with the Annual Fundraiser, and more. Training to operate CS's computer system is provided. Computer and customer service skills are a plus. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Science Shop Volunteers

Help gift shop staff with visitor check-in, sales, and inventory. Assist visitors with any questions they may have. Computer and customer service skills are a plus. Training to operate CSC’s point-of-sale system is provided.

 

Corporate/Group Opportunities

Catawba Science Center's Group/Corporate volunteer opportunities allow teams to give back to their community and support our mission. These opportunities can range across different departments, typically assisting with new exhibit set-up/take down, exhibit projects, special events, etc.
